Bella arrived on Thursday 28th September 2006, hugging the ground as she walked, scrared to come when she was called and skin that was so infected it came off in big chunks of yellow dried puss. The fur on her back was growing in skin that was so infected it could be pulled out in lumps. A nail in her back foot had grown at least 3mm into her pad. She been bought from an advert in the paper, her young family loved her but had no idea how to deal with her problems.

The nail has grown round and back into the foot You can see the infection just above the nail

Now the nail is cut you can clearly see the wound caused by the nail The sharp section to the right was inside the foot

This photograph actually doesn't show how yucky the skin actually was. The yellow is dried infection, the pink is completely bald where the infection has damaged the fur growth. Even her name tag  and collar buckle is covered in yellow pus

Bella's treatment seem pretty drastic but in cases such as this it is the best way to help the fur to recover

First up a bath in SporalD disinfectant shampoo. This shampoo kills bacteria, fungus and any other nasty bugs that are lurking in the infection Washing the yellow muck away was hard but already the skin looks calmer

Being dried was her favourite bit

We then set about completely removing her fur As drastic as this looks it allows the dead fur to re-grow through. She was a really really good girl as Jason held her and fed her gravy bones throughout.

With the fur gone you can see the patches of infection She's not amused!

Another wash in disinfectant shampoo And then her whole body is covered with antiseptic cream. The Equimins MSM cream we use is a horse cream, but it soaks in much quicker than sudocrem, it will also help with her fur re-growth

A quick ear clean (which she really wasn't happy about) A brand new comfy cushion (which she'll probably wee on) and back to bed with a five day course of anti biotics

On Monday 30th October Bella went to her new home. Thank you to everyone that supported her treatment
