These are questions that we are asked on a regular basis about the Bulldog
![]() |
Yes! is the short answer to
that. Bulldogs snore because they are flat faced and although some snore
louder than others it is a breed characteristic that you learn to live with
|

They don't slobber as such
(unless poorly or hot) but there is a certain degree of snail trail that get
deposited around the house (or on you). They do dribble water though and the
last mouthful of water is rarely swallowed but will instead be trailed off
to where ever your dog goes next

Yes of course they do. White
coated dogs appear to moult more but all colours will shed fur all year
round. A weekly brush will be required to keep the coat free of dead fur

No, the bulldog is one of the
gentlest breed we currently have. They are clumsy and sometimes
misunderstood as they can be quite vocal when playing. Occasionally their
piggy noises can be mistaken for growling but we rarely come across a nasty
bulldog.

Most are yes but be aware that
adult bulldogs are very heavy and clumsy, preferring to walk through
something rather than round it so small children could be knocked over.
Young bulldogs (especially males) can be very boisterous so be prepared for
this if considering a bulldog around very small children.

This is something that is very
individual to each bulldog. It is not unusual for bulldogs to be
misunderstood by other breeds who can't read the flat face and a bad
experience with other dogs early in life can make them dog aggressive.
Others are fine with other dogs outside the home but are not always happy to
live with other dogs. Their jealous nature can lead to fallings out between
dogs within the same household and they can be possessive of toys and food.
|
![]() |
Usually yes. If they do decide
to chase the cat they rarely catch one.
|
![]() |
Not usually, the bulldog enjoys
human company and would view most burglars as a personal visitor, they would
almost definitely be allowed to help themselves to the TV and Video as long
as there was a pat on the head in it for the dog.

They shouldn't do no. A well
bred bulldog will have few problems so be sure you buy from a reputable
breeder that is breeding small scale for the show ring. Avoid breeders that
never show or claim to be breeding for the pet market - these are most
probably only breeding for money and will have little knowledge of the
pedigrees behind the dogs. Click

common bulldog ailments. Be aware that many vets are unfamiliar with the
breed and may assume that breed specific traits are normal to the bulldog.

Growl at me when he has a toy in his mouth Usually because he wants you to play with him Run about the house bouncing off the furniture We call this the Wall of Death, many bulldogs seem to do this but we have no idea why. Usually occurs in the evenings and lasts for a few minutes. The best advice we can give is stand still and wait for it to be over Bark at me when I'm on the phone Because he wants you to stop talking to the plastic thing and talk to him instead - the 3 year old toddler mentality
