Bulldog Rescue Volunteer Contract

The Bulldog Rescue and Rehoming Trust is registered as a charity and therefore volunteers are required to abide by our code of conduct. Subsequently you are required to sign the following contract which must be enclosed with your application form. Failure to abide by these rules and regulations may result in you being removed from the rescue roster.

Any problems or queries regarding your role as a volunteer should be addressed to The Chairman. Any problems regarding a dog in your care should be addressed to the Rescue Co-ordinator.

As a Bulldog Rescue Volunteer I agree that, once accepted as a volunteer, I will abide by the rescue policy and volunteer guide lines at all times.   I will at all times do my best to uphold the reputation of the bulldog breed and will make every effort to attend the annual volunteer meeting in Leicester each May.

I also agree that I shall:

1) Only act as instructed by the Co-ordinators

a)             I understand that I can only act in accordance with instructions given to me and that I must not operate independently of Bulldog Rescue.

b)             I understand that all dogs that come into my care in my capacity as a Rescue Volunteer are the property of Bulldog Rescue and shall be rehomed in the home selected by the Rescue Co-ordinator.

c)             I acknowledge that I am not expected to find the new home myself and must not advertise the dog independently or make efforts to find a home locally.

d)             I acknowledge that I am not permitted to keep the dog as my own except in extreme circumstances and then only with the express permission of the rescue co-ordinator. Under no circumstances may volunteers make private arrangements with the donating owner, or their representatives, upon collection of any dog.

e)             I acknowledge that I will not be expected to pay any vet fees or feeding costs and that these can either be paid direct by Bulldog Rescue or claimed back as an expense upon presentation of an expenses form with supporting receipts

f)             I understand that I may be instructed to arrange for a dog that has bitten, shown signs of aggression or is unwell to be put to sleep, and acknowledge that I will undertake this should I be asked to do so by the Rescue Co-ordinator and will stay with the dog whilst the procedure is carried out.

2) Behave in a professional and compassionate manner at all times

a)                    I understand that I must wear ID in all situations where I am dealing with the public on behalf of Bulldog Rescue.

b)                   I understand that I must wear a uniform t-shirt at all times when dealing with the public on behalf of Bulldog Rescue.

c)                    I understand that I may be required to confirm my identity (a phone number will be printed on your ID badge should confirmation be required)

d)                   I understand that I must not openly pass judgment on anyone gifting a dog into Bulldog Rescue or give them any reason to feel guilty about their decision.

e)                    I acknowledge that all information passed to me in the course of rescue duties shall be treated in a strictly confidential manner. I understand that Kennel Club registered details are not passed on with the dog to the new owner and are retained by Bulldog Rescue; and subsequently must never be discussed or passed to anyone outside the rescue group.

Rescue volunteers meet annually and I understand that I will be expected to attend this meeting except in extreme circumstances that would prevent it.
